Friday March 26, 2021

Learning Target: Students will be learning how to create a classroom community. Students will know the roots and main characteristics of the most common types of government.

Circle: What is one thing you have worked hard at and practiced to get better at?

QOD: What island is known for having large human like statues made from stone?

Governments: We will be talking about the major forms of government as well as their history in ancient Rome and Greece. The governments are:

Democracy: Direct vs Representative, How the Athenians used Democracy. We will be watching this video talking about the lottery system the Athenians used. Students will be reading this article and talking about whether or not America should use a lottery system.

Republic: We will be talking about how a republic works, with the addition of a constitution and an elected president.


Writing: There will be a short writing assignment on Google Classroom to end class today.

Learning Target: Students will be working to create a classroom learning community. Students will be working to get better at essential reading, writing, and analyzing skills. Students will understand the reasons why people live where they live.

QOD: In what state was the hottest recorded temperature in the world?

Circle: If you could be any animal for the day, which one would you choose?

Jobs Breakout Room: We will be going into breakout rooms and you will be discussing with your classmates what two jobs you talked about in your assignment for Wednesday. You will discuss why you think you would like the jobs that you chose. 

Survey: You will be going to this link and taking the survey. Go all the way until the end and see what jobs it suggests for you. https://www.mynextmove.org/explore/ip

Breakout Room Discussion: In the same breakout rooms, you will be discussing the jobs that the survey picked out for you. Are they similar to the ones you thought you wanted? Are they different?

Writing: In an assignment on Google Classroom, you will be talking about whether or not the survey job suggestions agreed or disagreed with what you think you might want to have for a job. 

Employer Benefits Research: You will be doing some research to find out what some potential benefits are that some employers may give, that others may not. We will be working together to create a master list.

Benefits Writing: You are going to narrow it down to 3-5 benefits that you think would be really important to you as a future employee. Why do you think those benefits would be important for you?

Circle: What's something in your closet that you won't wear? If you could take over and become the owner of any company in the world, which company would you choose?

Immigration Summative: This week you will be working on your Immigration Slideshows. You will be working on them both in class and out of class.

QOD: What spell that Harry Potter is famous for is used to fight Dementors?

Circle: Do you think your personality has been shaped more by your family or your friends?

Syria Webquest: In class you will be working to complete the Syrian Webquest that is posted on Google Classroom. You have the option to work on this as an individual or as a small group of 2-3 max.

Upfront Article: If you get done with the Syrian Webquest, you will read "A Deadly Journey" starting on page 13. After reading, you will write a short reaction to the article.



Virtual Students

History of US Immigration: You will be watching the video and answering the questions on Google Classroom.

Refugee Crisis Research: You will be following the instructions for this assignment on Google Classroom.

Week of January 4, 2021 - January 8, 2021

Learning Target: Students will be working to create a classroom learning community. Students will be working to get better at essential reading, writing, and analyzing skills. Students will understand the reasons why people live where they live.

QOD: What is the tallest mountain in New England? What is the tallest dog breed in the world?

Circle: What is one highlight from your vacation? Would you rather be able to get away with any lie you tell, or be able to detect any lie told to you?

Five Big Things: What are five places you really want to go sometime in your life?

Push & Pull Factors: I will be introducing what push & pull factors are. You will then be researching & brainstorming what possible push and pull factors might be.

American Immigration: We will be working with the article below to discuss the current trends of American Immigration. We will be trying to find out where people are coming from, and WHY they are coming to America. 

"Death Train": We will be watching this video that follows a group of people's journey to America.

Discussion: We will be having group discussions and then a class discussion about the video we watched. What do we think the United States should do about what is going on in these South American countries?

Writing: You will be writing a reflection in Google Classroom based on what you have learned today.


Virtual Students

After circle, you will be leaving zoom and working on your own.

Exploration: You should explore this website. Some of it may be a little confusing and that's okay, just do your best! Your goal is to learn about the process for becoming an American citizen. After looking through this website, take a look at this link which will show you the civics test you have to pass in order to become a citizen.

Circle: Are you a person that likes or dislikes surprises?

Finding a New Homeland: You will be working together in groups to complete the Finding a New Homeland activity. We will then be having a discussion as a class about why you chose the location you did.

QOD: What is the name of the world's largest and hottest desert? 

Circle: What TV or Movie character would you want to hang out with for the day?

Climate Change Mini Q: We will be working on answering the questions for the Climate Change Mini Q in class today. Students will be answering the questions together in breakout rooms. After having group discussions, we will have a full class discussion.
