Five Big Things: Students will be sharing what their five favorite activities are.
Map Analysis: Students will be talking in small groups about the answers that they gave for the map analysis questions. We will then be discussing them as a class.
Color Coding: We will quickly be going over how to color code a paragraph.
Map Analysis Summative: Students will be working on their Map Analysis Paragraphs.

5 Themes: We will be going over the five themes of geography and how they impact us.
Location: We will be learning about relative and absolute location. We will be doing a quick lesson on how to read latitude and longitude.
Place: We will be talking about what place is in relation to the five themes. Students will be completing an example for the high school.
Movement: We will be talking about what movement is. Students will be trying to come up with examples of movement in the United States.
Human/Environment Interaction: We will be talking about what Human/Environment Interaction is. Students will be thinking about how they adapt to and change their environment.
Region: We will be learning about what a region is. We will be trying to come up with different regions for the state of Maine.

Lunchroom Fight: Students will be looking over the lunchroom fight scenario, and will be reading the different witness statements.
Lunchroom Fight Evidence: After reading the witness statements, students will be evaluating each witness. Students will try to identify what biases each witness might have, and will ultimately have to rank how reliable they think each witness is.
Homework: Students will be finishing the Evidence Context chart for the Lunchroom Fight.

Political Issues: Students will be doing some research on the major political issues surrounding this election. We will be making a master list of some of the major issues as a class.
Discussion & Questions: Students will get to talk in groups about which issues are most important to them and why. They will then get a chance to ask any questions that they have about the issues.
Issues and Candidates: Students will be completing an assignment on Google Classroom where they will talk about which issues are most important to them, where they stand on that issue, and which candidate aligns closer with their belief.

Identifying: Students will be presented with a series of scenarios and will be trying to determine if there is bias in each one. If there is bias, students will be asked to identify exactly what was biased.

Maps: Here are examples of the three main types of maps we will be working with this year. I will be explaining what these types of maps are, and why we use them. Students will then be exploring these maps and trying to figure out what information they can get from them.

We will be talking about historical maps as well and talking about what we can understand by looking at these maps.
Parts of a Map: We will be having an in class conversation about the different parts of a map. What makes a good map? What makes a bad map?
Create a Map: Students will be doing their best to create a population or snowfall map of Maine. Snowfall legend will be 0-50, 50-100, 100-150, 150+. Population will be 0-25, 25-100, 100-250, 250+.

Primary & Secondary Sources: Students will be learning about the differences between primary and secondary sources. Students will be practicing their skills by looking at different scenarios and trying to figure out which ones are primary and which ones are secondary sources.
