Today's Learning Target: Students will be able to locate people, places, and things throughout the world. We're working on maps!

Circle: Describe your favorite vacation.

Circle Discussion: What is a learning target? What is the circle for learning targets? What is the learning target for today?

Individual Activity: Students will be going to this link. They will first go through the American states tutorial for five minutes. They will then play the beginner game.

Group Activity: Students will be working together in groups to create a list of ten important places around the world. Students will label world maps with these places and will also be writing blurbs on why these places are important.

Class Activity: Students will be introduced to the book "A Little History of the World." I will be introducing the journal aspect to the readings as well.

Individual Activity: Students will be given a list of places to find on the map using longitude and latitude lines. They will attempt to write down the correct answers for these places.

Group Activity: Students will be working together to brainstorm lists of ways that we are like the original hominids and homo sapiens and the ways we are not like them at all.

Exit Ticket: What is one important place you located on your map? What country is it in and what city/town? In your own words, why do you think this place is important? How comfortable are you with finding places on a map using absolute and relative location?

Homework: Chapter 1 Section 2 reading and outlining is due for Monday.
